Now that the final PDGA ratings&points update has been made, we can officially declare 2015 ‘done’.
For the PDGA Europe Player of the Year 2015 awards this mean that this year’s winners are the same as last year.
Even though these are arguably simply the best players in Europe at this moment, but their wins were not that clear-cut.
Simon Lizotte, DE faced a lot of competition this year, with more potential winners than in 2014.
Even though he did not compete in the EuroTour series at all, his better track record at Major events secured him the overall title PDGA Europe Player of the Year 2015.
Seppo Paju, FI (winning the 2015 EuroTour with a grand display of power with 3 wins, 1 second, and 1 third) took second place in the overall rankings, and the top 3 were completed by Henrik Johansen, SE, who – like Simon – spent most of the 2015 season playing North American events.
The PDGA Europe Female Player of the Year saw many different players vying for a top spot, and any of them could have walked away with the final win.
Ragna Bygde #8559-Lewis, SE edged out Natalie Holloköi, CH with the narrowest of differences, who in turn kept Sofie Sandström behind her with an equally small difference.
Like Simon, Ragna did not compete in the 2015 EuroTour, but her PDGA rating & points total were enough to keep Natalie (who won the EuroTour, in the toughest battle in the FPO division since the inception of the Eurotour, but had to DNF at both European Majors this summer), and Sofie (taking 3rd in the EuroTour) behind her.
Simon and Ragna will be receiving their awards at the 2016 Pro Worlds in Emporia, KS, USA this summer.
